Hello,
In case you haven't noticed this project has been my attempt to place all of the websites and database resources I use on a regular basis in one place. To that end I hope other people find it as convenient and useful as I do.
Thanks for dropping by.

Peter Ingestad,
ReplyDeleteThat's certainly an intriguing theory, however, I see one quaint little problem. The chapters and verses ascribed to scripture are not in the original or earliest texts. Why? Quite simply, they were added later to help readers refer to passages in a more convenient way. Verses were not even introduced at the same time as chapters, rather they were introduced later. Additionally, early versions that do include chapters differ in their placement. This is done quite simply because the placement of reference numbers was never thought to add or illuminate any particular meaning within the texts. Even modern exegesis typically calls for the reader to ignore the reference system in order to read the text in context to the passages around it. If the early church and the recipients of scripture did not have the relatively modern convenience of the reference system it would seem to be eisegesis to impose additional meaning upon scripture by interpreting it's contents through a later convention.
Would you not agree?
Sincerely,
Kadin
